An Update! An Update!

So . . . I have done a HORRIBLE job of posting on this once a week. I guess college life has been a little busier than I expected, and I haven’t had as much time as I would like to keep all of you updated. Anyway, here goes my first post since actually getting in the swing of things here at OSU.

I LOVE being a college student, especially here at the greatest university in the country! (Sorry if I am a little biased as a Buckeye.) Getting used to the world of lectures and midterms and academic advisors has definitely come with its own set of challenges, but overall I have felt well-prepared to meet the expectations set for me. I have been learning a lot, and I’ve had the chance to build some good relationships with professors and classmates. Time has been flying by, and I can’t believe that my first quarter is almost over and finals are looming on the horizon.

As far as ministry on campus goes, I have been getting involved with RealLife, which is the OSU branch of Campus Crusade for Christ. I have been attending the girls’ Bible study in my dorm and I have also decided to be part of the Freshman Leadership Team. It has been awesome to meet and fellowship with so many other believers who are committed to reach our fellow students with the good news of God’s redemption.

My quest to find a church goes on. I have visited a few that I liked, and a few that were pretty questionable. While I still have not found a “home church,” the search itself has taught me a lot about what I am looking for and what is important. Since coming to OSU, I have been challenged to examine and question my beliefs in many different areas, including my perspective on church. I have been learning to judge between what practices and doctrines are actually rooted in the Bible and essential to our faith and which ones are just traditions that I have been taught. I have been pushed to think outside the box, to realize that just because something is the way I have always done it does not make it right (or wrong for that matter). Overall, it has been a wonderful learning experience that has forced me to delve deeper into what I believe, why I believe it, and why it matters.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this and learn a little bit about what is going on in my life. I truly appreciate your prayers. Life is not easy here, but God is definitely at work!
Emily
